So as I mentioned in the last post the girls became ill on our last trip to Lao. The aircon blasted us for the whole 9 hour bus ride. They had no chance.
On our way back home Alayna developed a fever and barking cough. So since we were headed to Bangkok anyway, we decided to visit the Adventist hospital to get a diagnosis. The attending doctor said she had Laryngitis (inflammation of the Larynx’s). He said she needed a steroid shot, and to take antibiotics. Oh boy! I thought steroids ??? Umm, he couldn’t explain to me how an immune suppressor like steroids would help her immune system fight off the infection. And it could have been his thick accent, but nevertheless, I wasn’t interested. Now the antibiotics she can not do as she is allergic. And antibiotics are the best either, especially if not absolutely necessary. He mentioned that if I did not do these exact medicines she would develop a bacterial infection “and you don’t want that” he said.
Don’t get me wrong, I respect doctors and their opinions but I do know that they are not always right and that there are usually healthier alternatives than pharmaceuticals.
So we headed home the following day and the hunt began for all the ingredients I would need for my recipe that someone shared with me of Natures Penicillin. Yes, there is such a thing as natural penicillin.
I found all the ingredients and tossed them into Lisa’s blender and gave the girls their first dose. The girls are doing well now and I am very happy to say that they did not need any medications with adverse side effects. God is Good! Here is the recipe for Nature’s Penicillin:
batch Units: US | Metric
1 grapefruit (peeled very thinly so some of the white pith remains)
1 orange (peeled very thinly so some of the white pith remains)
2 lemons (wash thoroughly, can leave peel on)
3 garlic cloves
1/2 large onion
3 drops peppermint oil (optional)
1/16-1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (if heavily congested)
1. Cut the fruit and onion into coarse pieces.
2. Place in a blender and mix well.
3.You may need to add a little bit of water to get the blender to mix it without clogging.
4. Adults – one cup a day.
5. Children – 1/2 cup a day.
6. This amount is not to be taken all at once, but just a spoonful at a time every so often throughout the day, until the total amount desired has been consumed.
7. Pour remainder into glass jar and keep refrigerated. When ready to use, warm slightly in a pan before serving.
